What do you think was the most mentally crushing during bootcamp?

I wouldn’t say it was “mentally crushing” by a long shot, but I remember the speech our drill sergent gave on training day zero pretty well. He steps on the bus and the whole thing gets silent, then he starts booming out, “My name is sergent ____, and I am NOT your mom. I am […]

I wouldn’t say it was “mentally crushing” by a long shot, but I remember the speech our drill sergent gave on training day zero pretty well. He steps on the bus and the whole thing gets silent, then he starts booming out, “My name is sergent ____, and I am NOT your mom. I am NOT your dad, and I’m ****ned well not any other thing you’ve seen in any movies. My job is not to hold your hand and make you feel good. My job is to watch for you to **** up, and when you DO, my job is to fail you and… SEND… YOU… HOME!!! (pause here because some idiot cracked a chuckle) WHAT ARE YOU LAUGHING AT? Guess what… you just got promoted. How fast do you think you can get all 35 people off this bus and lined up outside? (idiot answers 2 minutes). Good, you have 15 SECONDS. now get off my ****ing bus.” and then we repeated getting on and off the bus about three or four times in the rain until we were quite sure that 34 seconds is the fastest that we could fail to meet expectations at getting off a bus. Interesting times. Looking back, i loved every minute of those days (as long as i don’t have to repeat them any time soon)

My sister had a horse and it did the same thing. The horse obviously has a few issues with self esteem!! It sounds odd, but it happens. My uncle is a vet and says it is common actually. What he said for my sister to do was to break her of it slowly. Start off with a long stick and carefully add a little pressure to her sensitive area, as you do this, if she doesn’t seem to have a problem with it, start moving closer. Stay where she can see you!! That is really important! Then, when you finally get up closer to where you can reach, touch her with just one finger, adding the rest of your hand slowly. Take your time. It is like a relationship. You need to be patient with her and eventually after doing this enough times, she will be ok with you touching her there. It took my sister a week of doing this and the horse was completely OK with it. Work up to it. Good luck!!!!! *Confused~as~Usual*

If the cod is still very salty, boil in water for 20 minutes. Drain cod and cut or break into small pieces. Heat oil in a frying pan. Add the onions, thyme and scotch bonnet pepper, tomato, tomato paste and green peppers. Stir for a few minutes. Add the cod. Stir. Simmer for 5-8 minutes, and then sprinkle with black pepper. Best served with bammy, roast breadfruit, fried or cooked dumplings, or fried or cooked plantains, cooked yams and Jamaican sweet potatoes.
